FDI drops by a third

Foreign direct investments (FDI) in Romania dropped by 36 per cent to 1.9 billion Euros in the first seven months of this year, the central bank said today (Fri).

A year ago, the FD amounted to 2.9 billion Euros, in the same period.

Equity stakes (including reinvested profit) stood at 1.33 billion Euros in January to July, while intra-group loans amounted to 480 million Euros.

FDI covered half of the country's current account deficit in the first seven months of 2010.

Romania's current account deficit widened 38.5 per cent to 3.79 billion Euros in January to July, from a gap of 2.74 billion Euros a year earlier.
