Romania´s GDP up by 0.3 per cent in Q2

Romania's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.3 per cent in the second quarter, compared to the first quarter this year, the National Institute for Statistics (INS) announced today (Weds).

GDP in the second quarter dropped by 0.5 per cent compared to the similar period last year.

Compared to last year, GDP in the first six months dropped by 2.4 per cent, the INS report, based on seasonal adjusted data, shows.

INS said the estimated GDP for the first semester of this year was 50.33 billion Euros (211.41 billion lei), at current prices.

Industry sector activity increased by 5.9 per cent, being the largest increase of all sectors, INS said. In agriculture, activity increased by 0.7 per cent, while in financial and real estate activities, there was an increase of 0.8 per cent.

Contractions of minus 8.3 per cent were registered in commerce and constructions, and also minus 4.2 per cent drops were registered in hospitality industry and telecommunications and a 2.7 per cent in other services.
