Romania has largest fall in new car registrations in the EU

Romania registered the largest decrease of new car registrations in the European Union in February year on year, according to a report released today (Tues) by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).

Romania registered a decrease of 63 per cent, followed by Hungary, with a minus 57.9 per cent and Poland, with a minus 19.2 per cent, compared to the same month a year ago.

New car registrations in Romania in February dropped to 2,658 from 7,187 in February last year.

In EU member states, new car registrations increased by 3.0 per cent, on average, in February, and by 7.9 per cent over the first two months of the year, compared to the same periods in 2009.

Compared to 2008, new car registrations decreased by 16 per cent in the January-February period, according to ACEA.

In February, a total of 974,346 new cars were registered in Europe.

The EU markets that had the largest increases were France (18 per cent), Italy (20.6 per cent) and the UK (26.4 per cent).

The report also shows that Germany was the only large market to decline from January to February. The German market declined by 19.5 per cent.
