BCR cards unusable tomorrow night

Romanian Times

Austrian Erste Group's subsidiary Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) announced today (Mon) that bank cards would not be usable tomorrow (Tues/Weds) night from 00.00 to 05.00 during information-system technical improvement.

BCR reported last month a net profit after taxes of 206.3 million Euros (871.7 million lei) in 2009, down by 43 per cent year on year.

BCR, Romania’s largest bank, said in a statement that the lower profit was due to higher provision expenditures and lower fee income due to falling consumer demand for loans.

BCR reported an increase of 32.1 per cent in operating profit to 772 million Euros (3.26 billion lei) year on year, fueled by 18 per cent growth of operating income and cost-control measures.

BCR opened 20 new retail branches in 2009, raising their total to 661.
