IMF head to visit Bucharest at the end of March

Romanian Times

The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dominique Strauss-Kahn, will visit Bucharest on 30 March as part of his European tour, according to the institution.

Strauss-Kahn will be accompanied by European department manager Marek Belka and Romania mission head Jeffrey Franks.

The managing director of the IMF is going to meet with President Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Emil Boc, Finance Minister Sebastian Vladescu, and National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu.

Strauss-Kahn will also address Parliament and deliver a speech at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.

Strauss-Kahn has been the managing director of the IMF since November 2007.

In February 2010, the IMF approved disbursement of 2.3 billion Euros to Romania after completing a review of the country’s performance under a 13-billion-Euro standby agreement.

Romania and the IMF agreed last spring on a 13-billion-Euro stand-by loan as part of a 20- billion-Euro package that included funding from the European Commission, the World Bank and other international lenders.
