Employers may begin hiring new employees

One in ten employers in Romania expects to hire new employees in the second quarter, according to a poll by recruiting company Manpower.

The results of the poll are encouraging for the labour market, which is suffering from a seven-year-high 8.3 per cent unemployment rate.

In the poll, 64 per cent of the employers said they would maintain the current number of employees, 14 per cent would recruit new employees and 21 per cent estimate a small number of new people would be hired.

Manpower Romania General Manager Camelia Stanculescu said in a press release that poll results showed a slight improvement in hiring prospects during the second quarter.

According to the study, hiring prospects in eight of the ten analysed industrial sectors, especially construction, transport, storage and communications, are negative.

Manpower polled 61,000 employers in the public and private sectors in 36 countries, including 750 in Romania.
