Dacia employees threaten protests if wages are not raised

Romanian Times

Renault's Dacia car plant in Piesti in southern Romania will face protests by employees if their salaries are not increased, it emerged today (Tues).

Unionists have started negotiations for an increase of 126 Euros (520 lei) per month for every employee retroactive to January 2010.

The company has offered only a 31 Euro increase (136 lei) in three tranches.

Union leader Ion Iordache noted that employees had to do more work since the new Duster model was being developed.

Besides the Duster, Dacia currently produces six car models: Logan Berlina (sedan), Logan MCV, Logan Van, Logan Pick-up, Dacia Sandero and Dacia Sandero Stepway.

Dacia sold 311,282 cars last year, 20.5 per cent more than in 2008, but its sales in Romania declined more than 50 per cent year on year to 41,862 cars.
