Electric-power consumption may increase by one per cent in 2010

Mediafax

Electric power consumption may increase by one per cent year on year in 2010 after falling by 8.3 per cent last year, according to Octavian Lohan, deputy general manager of state-owned power grid operator Transelectrica.

Electricity consumption had amounted to 55.2 TWh in 2009, and it had been estimated it would be 55.5 TWh this year, Lohan said.

He added that 2010 would be considered a normal year from the consumption point of view compared to 2009, when electric-power demand was impacted by the financial crisis as numerous big energy consumers closed down or reduced their production.

A first sign of recovery was apparent in December, when the energy consumption was 1.2 per cent higher than in December 2008.
