Only six per cent of Romanians intend to buy a car

Only six per cent of Romanians intend to buy a car in the next six months, a GfK study has revealed.

In comparison, nine per cent of Romanian intended to buy a car one year ago.

Fifty-five per cent want to buy a used car, the study also reveals. Price is the most- important criterion when buying a car for 36 per cent of respondents, followed by low fuel consumption for 24 per cent of respondents and brand for 18 per cent.

Women are more interested in a car's colour and security system than men.

Only 37 per cent of Romanians own a car, according to the study, which claims the favourite brands for 60 per cent of Romanians are Volkswagen, Dacia Logan and Opel, followed by Audi and BMW.

GfK Romania interviewed 2,000 people monthly from July 2008 to July 2009 for the MotoBus study.
