Coo-Dunit: Thieves Nab Rare Pigeons

romaniantimes.at

Baffled police are trying to track down thieves who broke into a pigeon loft and made off with nearly 100 rare birds.

The theft of the Usbekian Tumbler birds - famous for their highly elaborate plumage - has ruffled feathers in the pigeon fanciers' community in Wildeshausen, Germany, where prime specimens can change hands for up to 500 GBP each, say experts.

"Several birds were left behind in the cage.

"We can only assume that these weren't considered to be up to the standard required for either showing or breeding," said a police spokesman.

"The thieves were clearly experts themselves so it seems right to assume they might know the victim in some way.

"Sadly they're not homing pigeons so they won't fly back by themselves.

"It might seem a strange case to investigate but these birds represent a huge investment in time and money for their rightful owner," they added.
