Bombers Mum Murdered in Shallow Grave

Kathryn Quinn

The body of the mother of a college professor who plotted to blow up the Polish parliament has been discovered murdered and buried in a shallow grave.

Police unearthed the partially buried body in national park woodland in Ojcow last April but didn't initially connect it with Brunon Kwiecien who was arrested in Krakow three months ago in possession of four tons of explosives, detonators and a handgun.

Investigators had initially been told that the professor's mother Julita Kotas had moved to Britain.

But now they believed Kwiecien may have killed his mother and hid her body because she'd discovered his crazed plot.

Yesterday's confirmation that the remains belonged to her follows media reports last week that blood had been found in the woman's house in the village of Lednica Gorna south of Krakow.

Prosecutors say Kwiecien planned to rig a truck as a giant bomb and then ram through security fences around the Polish parliament.

The professor - facing bomb-making and terrorism charges - is now also being quizzed over his mother's death.

"We don't know the motive at the moment. Maybe she found out what he was planning, or maybe he thought that as he planned to die anyway, one more killing wouldn't matter," said one police source.

Crazed Kwiecien was a fan of Norwegian mass killer Anders Breivik and told undercover police investigating him he wouldn't have made the sane "mistakes" as his hero.

Last week Kwiecien made a statement through his lawyers confirming that he had planned to blow up parliament because of his hatred of politicians in general.

He remains in custody.
