A passenger who accidentally dropped 1,000 GBP in cash down a train loo is feeling flush again - after railway police returned virtually every penny.
Horrified Zhu Meijiao, 45 - on her way home to Yangxin, Hubei province, central China for the Chinese New Year - had been carrying the cash strapped to her waist when it suddenly slipped.
Quick-thinking train staff called local police who sent eight officers to conduct a finger-tip search of three miles of track.
"We found the notes everywhere. Down drains, in hedges, up trees.
"We gathered up as much as could see because we knew it was very important to her," said a police spokesman.
Astonished Zhu got back 980 GBP before police had to abandon the search because of poor weather.
"I never expected to see any of it again. I am so grateful to the police and the train guards," she said.
"I'd been in the toilet when I felt my belt go loose and saw the notes disappear through the hole in the floor.
"It was all the money I'd saved over the past year and I was taking it home to my family," added Zhu.
