See Eye D

Kathryn Quinn

This bizarre photofit issued by police in Germany has certainly got crime spotters keeping their eyes open.

The goggle-eyed gunman is wanted by police in Munster for holding up a mattress shop in the city and terrifying staff with a pistol.

Officers say he's in his 40s, has green eyes and curly hair - and made off with a pillow and cash.

But the image's huge staring eyes have made the information appeal a laughing stock with the public who have been sharing it on social networking sites - saying the photofit artist must have been having a bad day.

"It looks like a bush baby with a wig on," said one. Another described the man as Gollum's brother, adding that the man should be easy to spot if the picture was realistic.

He wrote on a Facebook share: "He looks like he could do with a good sleep - perhaps that's why he was in the mattress shop?"

A police spokesman defended the image saying: "The artist can only go on what the witness says, we will only know how accurate it is of course once we have found the gunman."
