Dread Res: War Crimes Milosevics Widow Sells Up

Kathryn Quinn

War crimes suspect Slobodan Milosevic's widow has put the couple's luxurious villa on the market for 3.6 million GBP in the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

The 326 square metre, stucco-fronted palace is where Milosovic and his widow Mira lived while the president of Yugoslavia, before the bloody Balkans conflicts.

Milosevic, 64, died of heart failure in custody in The Hague where he was facing war crimes charges nearly six years ago.

His wife Mira now lives in the Russian capital, Moscow, on a 370 GBP-a-month pension.

She is unable to return to Serbia because of legal accusations of fraud and involvement in the killing of a journalist.

Mira has not set foot in 33 Tolstoy Street since she fled the country on the arrest of her husband in 2001.

But local property experts say the couple's notoriety has put people off the villa.

"She will probably have to bring the price down by a quarter if she's serious about selling," one estate agent told local media.

"It's hard work selling a home with such a bad reputation," they added.
