This is one traffic cop that's always going to make a dummy of motorists in Shanghai, eastern China.
Ten of the realistic-looking plastic con-stables have been placed at strategic accident hotspots in the city to see what effect they have on motorists.
Police chiefs have also put 25 replica police cars in lay-bys and at junctions where speeding is common.
"t’s a pilot project. If it works well and people support it, we will do more.
"This is aimed at making motorists more aware of their speed,." said a city traffic police spokesman.
But drivers think they could backfire and cause more accidents as cars brake suddenly.
"It's dangerous. If you use the road all the time you'll soon get used to it and ignore it.
"But if it's your first time you'll brake hard and maybe someone will hit you," said one.
