Queue Bags-yed That Spot?

Kathryn Quinn

It looks as if China has learned to take a leaf out of Germany's book when it comes to bagsying a place in a queue.

Instead of standing in line to get into this college library in the capital Beijing, students copied the sunbed towel trick by leaving their rucksacks to claim their places.

Chinese campus libraries like this one at the People's University are packed at this time of year as students cram for their final exams.

But one student explained: "To be guaranteed a seat you have to be up at 5am and in the queue by 6am."

"We've seen that in other countries people don't always queue personally.

"So we leave our bags outside, go back to bed, then return at 8am when the library opens," they added.
