Evil Dad Torched Daughter for Compo (NRN)

Kathryn Quinn

A heartless step-dad who set his wife's daughter on fire so he could get his hands on 20,000 GBP she'd been given in an insurance pay out is facing life behind bars in Poland.

Cruel Tadeusz Pietrowski, 67, poured petrol over his step-daughter Katarzyna Polek, 36, and turned her into a human fireball at her home in Sandomierz, say prosecutors.

Katarzyna - now scarred for life - had been awarded 20,000 GBP compensation after her husband was killed in a motorcycle accident.

"He thought that if she died, the money would come to him," said a police spokesman.

His step-daughter was only saved when she staggered out of her home and neighbours and passers by put out the flames with wet towels.

Mum-of-two Katarzyna - who faces months of reconstructive surgery - said: "It was pure agony. I didn't know such pain existed."

"But I did not give up because I have a lot to live for.

"My two sons and my mother gave me the strength to live.

"And they still think I'm the most beautiful mum in the world," she added.

Her step-father denies attempted murder.
