Wee Home

Kathryn Quinn

It may look wee, but this two metre square corner of a public loo in southern China has become home to a couple and their 12-year-old son.

Potty parents Liao Xiaoming, 39, and his wife Wang Xuanna gave up a comfortable middle-class lifestyle running a shop in Guangzhou, Guangdong province for what even the most silver-tongued estate agent would have to admit is a bit of a toilet.

But for the immigrant workers from another part of China, the loo came with one unbeatable mod-con - free education for their son Wang.

"We heard that city employees who run public toilets get free education for their children. Our boy was struggling in the countryside with his grandparents.

"So that day we gave up our shop and moved in," explained dad Xiaoming.

And son Wang added: "It feels strange when people come inside to use the toilet while we are having meals but you get used to it."

Mum Xuanna said " We would never have chosen to live like this, except for our son. But he's worth it."
