Zoo keepers in Zurich, Switzerland, have put their three rhinos under 24 hour watch over fears that a gang of poachers has targeted their horns.
The move comes after a series of high-profile poaching attempts by gangs who can make up to 90,000 GBP from a single horn.
Zoo director Alex Rubel - who used to work at Lewa Wildlife Park in Kenya where Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton - said: "I don't want to say exactly what measures we have introduced for security reasons but we have increased security."
"I was in Lewa and although it was very well guarded poachers shot two rhinos.
"This is what we are trying to prevent. I do not want out animals to become victim to these horrendous crimes," he added.
The horns can be sold for a fortune in the Far East as a traditional medical cure all.
Prince William spoke out recently in the cruelty and brutality of rhino horn poaching.
