A 45-year-old construction worker died instantly when a man committing suicide by jumping off the 28-storey building she was working plunged nearly 300ft and landed top of her in a freak accident.

Victim Gao Lin, 45, had been removing nails from boards when Wang Lu hurled himself from a window in the office block directly above her in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, western China.

Paramedics say she died of massive head injuries.

"The man who jumped had been suffering from depression and was due to see a doctor the day before he died. Mercifully, Mrs Gao would have know and felt very little," said a police spokesman.
