Brit driver fined for sat nav error

Michael Leidig

A confused British driver nearly caused havoc on a motorway in Austria after making a U-turn when he missed an exit.

Confused Iraq-born Sami Rahmani, 43, was driving in a convoy with three other Iraqi-born Britons through Austria on their way to Iraq when he missed an exit.

He realised his mistake when the navigation system told him to turn around - which he did immediately.

He was finally taken out of danger by traffic police who said he was not drunk but "confused and did not know in which country he was."

He and the other three drivers who had stopped to wait after a few miles when they had realised Sami was not behind them anymore, were fined £90 each for not having paid the compulsory motorway toll charges.
