Hotel owners in Treffen, Austria, have found the paw-fect way to beat the recession - by closing it to humans and opening up for dogs.
Sun Hotel boss Friederike Zaubek had the brainwave when regular bookings at the Alpine retreat began to dry up in the credit crunch.
"People may cut back on spending for themselves but they always seem to have money to spend on treats for their pets," she explained.
Pampered pooches can chose from a gourmet menu featuring freshly cooked roast beef or baked salman, all road tested by Friederike's own dachshund Alfi.
To relax they can stretch out in deck chairs at the 90 GBP-a-night hotel, or more active guests can take their owners for walkies up local mountain paths.
"We will take humans, but only if they're accompanied by a responsible dog," explained Friederike.
