Ballet The Elephant

Kathryn Quinn

Magda the dancing elephant who became an internet star for her fancy footwork has celebrated her 50th birthday with a ball - all 50lbs of it.

The 4.5 ton beast amazes fans at her enclosure in Lodz Zoo, Poland, with her rhythmic moves, often to music played by her keepers.

Magda - who turned 50 on Sunday - celebrated her big day with a giant football specially made to take a pounding from her king-sized feet.

Then she tucked into a cake made from her favourite foods.

Her keeper for the last 30 years Grzegorz Adamczyk said: "The cake we made Magda was full of her favourite things - melons, strawberries and bananas.

"She wolfed that down pretty quickly."

Magda became a world-wide hit when clips of her dancing were uploaded onto YouTube.

"She really does enjoy the music," said one keeper.
