Nappy Ending

Kathryn Quinn

A 12-month-old baby who fell down an open drain was saved when his nappy got stuck in the pipe, say firefighters in Chemnitz, Germany.

Toddler Julien Treist had been playing with his big brother in the family's garden when mum Susan, 27, heard them scream.

"Julien fell bottom first into the pipe and was stuck fast like a cork in a bottle," she told local media.

Firefighters - who took an hour to free the tot - say he could have disappeared down the six-inch wide drain completely if it hadn't been for his substantial nappy.

"The cover had been left off the drain and the lad is very lucky not to have fallen straight down," explained one.
