Drop Gear

Kathryn Quinn

Startled Eric Muller had a wheel lucky escape when a runaway car plunged into his garden just feet from where he'd been having breakfast.

The parked motor had rolled over the edge of a 20ft drop above his front lawn when its driver had forgotten to put on the handbrake.

"It was the first warm day for weeks and I'd been out there having breakfast with my family just a few minutes earlier.

"Thank goodness we didn't have a second cup of coffee," said 38-year-old Eric.

Fire service spokesman Roland Haslinger added: "It it was pure luck that nobody was hurt either when the car rolled down the road and smashed through the fence or when it landed in the garden. Luckily the family wasn't on the lawn."
