It was a bridge too far for boozed up tractor driver Peter Biermann after he tried to speed off in his 30 mph tractor complete with trailer when he was spotted by cops at Soell in Kufstein , Austria.
Police were forced to follow behind the tractor as Biermann swerved from left to right across the road to prevent them from overtaking him.
Local Markus Maier said: "It was a bizarre car chase – the police cars with blue lights and sirens driving along behind a tractor and trailer."
Officers managed to radio ahead to colleagues who set up a roadblock, but the driver just smashed through it – almost knocking down a policeman in the process.
His attempt to flee ended when police set up a second roadblock – forcing the tractor driver to veer off the road and try and cross a wooden bridge which collapsed – tipping him and his trailer into a fast flowing stream.
The tractor driver who had already received the ban from driving because of drink was rescued by police from the water filled cab.
The damage to the tractor and trailer was estimated at around 45,000 pounds and it took 30 firemen four hours to bring the tractor back up and clear the oil and diesel that had run into the stream.
