Frost Damage

Kathryn Quinn

The images of frozen cars in the record cold February that hit Switzerland ended up being beamed around the world – and now Swiss insurance firms have said the cost of the big freeze was also the highest on record for February.

In total they said there were over 5,000 cold related insurance claims with a total value of 18.5 million pounds.

The last time Switzerland experienced a cold as extreme as this February had been more than hundred and 50 years ago when records first began.

The main claims were from motorists and from homeowners suffering from frozen pipes.
