Nazi Arty: Hitlers Sinister New Paintings

A sinister painting by Nazi monster Adolf Hitler is to go under the hammer for the first time since he painted it nearly 100 years ago.

The brooding seascape - titled 'Nocturnal Sea' - is listed for sale by online auctioneers Darke in Slovakia is expected to sell for more than 10,000 GBP.

Painted in 1913 while a young Hitler was struggling to make a career as an artist, the 24inch by 19 inch canvas shows a dark sea lit up only by a moon about to be shrouded by black clouds.

Experts say Hitler often painted night scenes to sell to tourists.

The painting has been put up for auction by a Slovak family who inherited it from a relative after the end of World War II.

Auctioneer Jaroslav Krajnak explained: "The family inherited the painting after WWII from a relative and decided they wanted to get rid of it. "This is extremely rare and we expect a fair bit of interest."

"We all know he was an evil monster, but he was also an aspiring artist," he added.
A second painting by Germany's wartime dictator - dating back to 1915 - was sold by the same auction house last month for 10,200 GBP.

Titled 'The Secret Meeting' and signed A. Hitler it shows robed and hooded monks meeting and studying in what looks like a chapel with a huge crucifix of Christ on the cross.
"There is a sinister feel to the work and you can see that, even then, he had no love for the church or religion. The monks are almost grotesque, cartoon characters plotting away in the background," said one expert.

Auctioneer Krajnak explained: "Hitler worked with oil, ink and watercolours. These works came from the collection of a Slovak collector who inherited it from his grandparents. They probably worked in Vienna."

Hitler was rejected three times as a pupil by the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna before giving up his studies and turning to politics after serving as a soldier in the trenches in World War I.
