Calmer Chameleon

Kathryn Quinn

An absent minded guest started a panic at a hotel in Werne, Germany, when he left his pet chameleon behind after checking out of the room.

The 10-inch long reptile had escaped from its enclosure and stood motionless on the ground with it skin perfectly adapted to blend in with the carpet, just as it would in the wild.

The lizard was only discovered when another guest tripped over it and ran screaming from the room.

"The guest was very upset, the chameleon was very upset so we called the police who were able to catch the thing and take it away," said a hotel spokesman.

The reptile is now recovering at a wildlife refuge while police trace its owner.
