Cold shoulder for fake glaciers

Scientists have begun building fake glaciers to combat the results of global warming.

Climate change expert Eduard Heindi has created two six foot man-made glaciers covering more than 1,000 square yards in Germany's Black Forest.

The physicist says Earth's increasing temperature may mean the end for Alpine Europe's natural glaciers which provide much of its water and are the foundations of the entire skiing industry.

"The data we wanted to collect was how fast it melts. We've found that the ice takes four times as long to melt at 10 degrees as it took to freeze at -10 degrees. That was enough to tell us that this idea works," he said.

Other climate change experts dismissed the plan as "nonsense".
