Boris the horny bull sparked a full-scale rescue when he got stuck trying to reach a field of cows on a neighbouring farm.

More than 20 firefighters and mountain rescue experts plucked the single-minded stud when he got trapped on a river bank near Amstetten, Austria.

Rising icy water eventually dampened his ardour and bedraggled Boris began bellowing for help.

"Rescuing farm animals is good practice so we're happy to help," said fire brigade spokesman Philipp Gutlederer.
