Watercolours painted this Chinese town red after a typhoon washed rare red clay down from the local mountains.
The clay that dyed the water red flooded into Foshan city, in southeast China’s Guangdong province, leaving roads, pavements and other open spaces bright red.
A local council spokesman said: "The rain was so heavy that there were many landslides, dropping red earth to the ground that was then washed away and it ended up in the city."
What is more he said that the red clay residue had remained after the water drained away, leaving much of the city at the lower level with a red tinge.
The red earth is created by iron in the soil that turns red through oxidation - a process that is much more pronounced in hot and wet climates.
