Competitive students in China aren't content to be drip fed facts as they prepare for college entrance exams - and have taken to using intravenous tubes to boost their studies instead.

Research shows that absorbing concentrated amino acids intravenously while studying can improve results.

So high school students throughout the country have begun bringing their own medical drips to school as they study for the country's notoriously difficult university exams.

These students - from Xiaogan No. 1 Middle School in Hubei province, central China - bought their drips with a grant from education chiefs, who encourage the technique.

School spokesman Gao Pingqiang told local media: "We're happy to carry on if students want to."

But Chinese bloggers have dismissed the drip habit as "sick."

"It doesn't show that the students are sick, it shows that society is sick," said one
