Dumb And Slumber

Kathryn Quinn

Sound sleeper Bartek Bablewski had a rude awakening when he had 40 winks on the back seat of his car - and woke to find he's been reported to police as an abandoned body.

Bricklayer Bartek, 36, was taking a break from a building site in Poznan, Poland, when his bare chested snooze caught the eye of horrified passers by.

"I often have a sleep during the lunch hour. Bricklaying is hard work.

"I'd taken my shirt off because I was hot and I always sleep with my arms across my chest," he explained.

"The next thing I knew police and paramedics were trying to tear the door off my car. It scared the life out of me," added Bartek.

Police later apologised for the slip, saying: "We had a number of calls from members of the public saying there was a corpse in a car.

"But when the emergency services turned up and then saw it move, it scared the life out of them too."
