A pair of artists have vowed to behead a live sheep with a guillotine in a sickening online performance art project where people can vote to either kill or save the animal.

Rouven Materne and Iman Reza - from Berlin, Germany - say that so far 120,000 people have voted on their website to decapitate the sheep while 180,000 have voted to keep it alive.

The guillotine - seen on the website - measures nearly 12ft high with a razor sharp 90lb blade.

Materne, 24, claimed the art performance was a criticism of current morality.

He added: "What must be done is something that comes directly from art – from the subconscious."

The pair say the helpless beast will be saved or slaughtered after 24 days of voting are up.

Rezai, 31, originally from Iran but who came to Germany in the 1980s, added: "What will be will be. There is no why or where about it."
