SINGAPORE - As the hearing drew to a close yesterday, a Coroner's Inquiry finally heard from the former Romanian diplomat identified by police as the driver behind two hit-and-run accidents - albeit through a two-page statement he gave to the police hours after they occurred. In it, former Romanian Charge d'Affaires Silviu Ionescu claimed he drove the black Audi back to the embassy at about 2am after a karaoke session on Dec 15 last year, the day the accidents took place. But the black Audi was gone an hour later. "I then asked my driver, Marius (Trusca), who stays in the office unit, to drive me around the vicinity of my office using another car," Dr Ionescu, who had refused to attend the Inquiry, said in the statement. "After searching for about 15 minutes to 20 minutes at the vicinity of my office, I still could not find my car." He then asked his driver to drop him off - he could not remember the road - and took a taxi home. However, Dr Ionescu's statement contradicted the driver's testimony. With his diplomatic immunity waived by his government, Mr Trusca testified on Tuesday that he was asleep on Dec 15 and was awaken at 3am by a flurry of calls from Dr Ionescu. Mr Trusca testified he only saw Dr Ionescu at 8.30am on Dec 15, when he picked the latter. Putting forward its 19-page report, police investigations also debunked Dr Ionescu's claims that the embassy's black Audi was stolen. On Dec 15, Madam Jeong Ae Ree, a Korean opera singer, confirmed the former diplomat dropped her at Hillcrest Arcadia Condominium, off Bukit Timah Road, at 3am. Tracing his route, police investigations showed that Dr Ionescu drove the Embassy's black Audi from the Arcadia Road Condominium onto the Pan-Island Expressway. He next entered Bukit Timah Expressway and made a left turn into Bukit Panjang Road. Here, the black Audi hit three pedestrians at two traffic junctions at around 3.10am, but did not stop. Dr Ionescu continued driving the car and was captured by a traffic camera, making a right turn into Woodlands Road at around 3.11am. He then turned into Sungei Kadut Avenue and abandoned the car outside an industrial premises, before boarding a taxi. Dr Ionescu then asked cabbie Neo Hock Beng for the number to call the police. The police received a call at 3.47am from Dr Ionescu to report the loss of the car. After repeated queries by the police operator as to where the car was lost, Dr Ionescu finally stated that he had lost his car in the "Bukit Timah area", Station Inspector Raimi Mohd Yusof said. During its investigations, the police conducted a test drive on Jan 6 at 2.20am. It took around nine minutes to drive from Sophia Road - where Dr Ionescu left a KTV after consuming alcohol - to Arcadia Road. A further test drive, which occurred at 2.50am, from Arcadia Road to the scene of the first accident, took around eight minutes. The accidents occurred at around 3.10am. Police investigations concluded Dr Ionescu had driven the black Audi in the two accidents and had abandoned the car at Sungei Kadut Avenue. "Police investigations have also revealed that Dr Silviu Ionescu is criminally concerned in the death of the deceased, Mr Tong Kok Wai, and the serious injuries caused to the other two pedestrians Bong Hwee Haw and Muhammad Haris Abu Talib," Station Inspector Raimi said. A total of 54 witnesses testified during the six-day hearing. State Coroner Victor Yeo will deliver his findings on March 31. Meanwhile, the Romanian Ministry of Justice's request to access the Inquiry's documents has been received by Singapore's Ministry of Law. The request is now being considered by the Attorney-General's Chambers.

Romania, the most corrupted country in EU Community by Carmen Fizesan Tuesday, 17 November 2009 Photo on: dianamih.wordpress.comRomania is the most corrupted country in the European Union together with Bulgaria and Greece, according to a Transparency International report. The study reflects the way the corruption is perceived among officials and politicians and shows the opinions of businessmen and analysts. The organization has analyzed 180 countries worldwide, and Romania is on the 71st place with only 3.7 points, following countries such as Ghana, Kuwait, Namibia, Samoa, and Seychelles. This is the first time in 7 years when Romania hasn't made any progress in fighting corruption since the previous year. Transparency International reprezentatives affirm that there were 2 domains that pushed Romania to the end of the top: the lack of a proper reform of justice and the questionable use of public money. The NGO's analysis gave points to every country between 1 and 10. The maximum grade's been given to the country with the less outspread corruption. www.seventimes.ro/.../romania_the_most_corrupted_country_in_eu.html We suggest bringing this case up to the International Court of Justice and the United Nations Council to decide whether Mr Silviu Ionescu should be brought to Singapore Court for further investigation. No one is above the law of democracy in this space age. We hope Romania wouldn't allow Mr Silviu Ionescu to tarnish the name of Romania which has just improve its national image for having a better government this time.

Rusine . Astia-s parvenitii Revolutiei : Marian Munteanu , Dinescu , etc..

The NMA is a reflection of the lack of predictability and efficiecy in a country where there is no leadership in regulating pharmaceutical development. This will have an impact on all resarch to be conducted in a country that should just be considered nothing else than an emerging market

Why sentence him because he has a road traffic accident. Dont you think that he deserves to be freed he has already done his sentance waiting for the verdit. Accidents happen all the time all over the world the director that died was not god he was a human being like all the other people that die every day. The justice in your country stinks. The directors family may have put Imran behind bars but what have they achieved. I am a catholic and belive that this is what god wrote these people were destined to die. If your county has any law than pleaseeeeee free him. No one has ever been sentenced like this in the whole of romanian hisory than why Ali Imran?. Your county not given imran a fai trial his human rights have been violated.

I have always struggled to make ends meet. I don't have much, but I have the necessities in live. I have to say, I am happy with the simple life. It is nice to see a rich person that realizes this. Mr. Rebeder, you are a wonderful human being to donate your riches to the people of Haiti. You truly have a good heart.
