Bucharest underground workers to protest

Romanian Times

Union members working on the Bucharest underground will protest Thursday in front of the Transport Ministry and the Finance Ministry.

The workers are displeased by the results of talks held yesterday (Mon) with the management of underground company Metrorex.

Last month, underground workers had threatened to go on strike in November, demanded a pay raise of nearly 26 per cent and called for negotiations on a new collective labour contract. The current contract expires on 1 November.

Underground workers’ salaries range from 357 Euros (1,500 lei) to 380 Euros (1,600 lei) monthly, plus bonuses.
